Mike warns of traffic chaos

There are already too many lorries in the centre of one of the most beautiful and historic towns in Essex. Now it seems that Uttlesford District Council and Essex Highways are working together to make things even worse for Saffron Walden.

Faced with more cars from large housing developments on the wrong side of town, the Councils plan to close two major routes from the south (Thaxted Road and Debden Road) and force all traffic and 90% of HGVs through the junction at the bottom of the High Street. Air pollution from traffic already exceeds permitted levels, and this scheme will make air quality even worse.

The last elections saw all Conservative Councillors representing Saffron Walden kicked off the District Council because of schemes like this. Now Lib Dems and residents’ groups are working to stop Conservative Councillors from other parts of the district imposing these crazy plans.
